FISSURE SEALANT
Fissure sealants should be done once your child’s permanent adult teeth have started to come through to protect them from decay. The chewing surfaces of the back teeth will be covered with a special thin plastic coating that keeps germs and food particles out of the grooves, stopping the causes of decay. This great preventative treatment can last as long as 5 to 10 years and avoid fillings in the
back teeth.
During this pain free treatment, the tooth is thoroughly cleaned, prepared with a special solution, and dried.
The liquid sealant is then applied and allowed to set hard by shining an ultraviolet light onto it.
FLUORIDE APPLICATION
During this simple pain free treatment a fluoride varnish is applied to either the baby teeth or the adult teeth.
The process involves painting a varnish containing high levels of fluoride onto the surface of the tooth every
six months to prevent decay. It works by strengthening tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay.
